Statistical Theory of the Elastic Properties of DNA Molecules.

Simple physical model is developed to study some characteristics of elastic properties of DNA molecules. We adapted the statistical theory of orientational elasticity of liquid crystals for description of the elastic properties of DNA molecule. The order of magnitude estimation of the elastic constants of DNA molecule is given and a new caloric effect due to the bending is predicted.
