In order to gain an insight into the dynamics of the
cardiovascular system, throughout which blood circulates, the time
series measured from blood flow are analysed by calculating the
local and global Lyapunov exponents. Over a wide range of
algorithm parameters, five paired exponents are typically
obtained. This may be evidence of the deterministic and almost
conservative nature of the system governing cardiovascular
dynamics on the time scale of minutes. The values of the exponents
change in respect to the state of the system.
Key words: Lyapunov exponents, blood flow, deterministic dynamical
systems
