Using the formalism of an operator method of effective medium, we examine
the waveguiding conditions in magneto-optical sandwiches of planar geometry. The structures under
consideration contain ultrathin absorbing magnetized film bounded between two
dielectric layers. We show that form anisotropy of the structure leads to practically
important effect---intersection of modal dispersion curves at certain frequencies and
angles of propagation. The influence of absorption and the possibility to control
polarization states of the eigenwaves are also discussed.
